Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Rateweb collects when you use rateweb.africa, how and why we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Please read it alongside our Terms of Use.

Scope. This policy covers rateweb.africa — the country selector, these policy pages and our cross-Africa guides. Each country site (for example ng.rateweb.africa or rateweb.co.za) publishes its own privacy policy covering the accounts, calculators and enquiry forms on that site, under the data protection law of that country.

Who we are

Rateweb is an independent personal-finance comparison and education publisher covering markets across Africa. We publish free calculators, product comparisons and guides. We are not a bank, a lender, a broker or a licensed financial adviser, and we do not hold client money.

If you have any question about this policy or about how your information is handled, you can reach us at hello@rateweb.africa or through our contact page.

What we collect on this site

rateweb.africa is a public, read-only site. It does not offer accounts, it has no login, and it does not ask you to submit personal information. Specifically:

If you email us, we will hold your message and your email address for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry.

Cookies and advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertising on this site. Advertising is how we keep Rateweb free to use.

Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies in their settings, and to browse privately. Blocking advertising cookies will not stop you from reading anything on this site or from using any of our tools.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how many people visit, which guides are read and which country sites people choose, so that we can improve Rateweb. We look at this information in aggregate; we do not use it to build a profile of you or to identify you personally.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. On this site, information is shared only:

Some of these providers operate outside the country you are reading from. Where that is the case, we take steps consistent with applicable data protection law to keep your information protected in transit and at rest.

How long we keep it

Server logs are kept only for as long as they are useful for security and fault diagnosis, and are then rotated and deleted. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and to keep a record of it. We do not maintain a marketing database on this site.

Your rights

Depending on the country you are in, you may have the right to ask us to: confirm what personal information we hold about you; correct it if it is wrong; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; withdraw a consent you have given; or provide a copy in a portable format.

To make any of these requests, email hello@rateweb.africa. We will respond within the time required by the law that applies to you. If you believe your information has been mishandled, you also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country — each Rateweb country site names the relevant regulator in its own privacy policy.

Keeping information safe

This site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted. We apply access controls and keep our systems patched. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect the limited information this site handles.

Children

Rateweb is intended for adults making financial decisions. This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

Our guides and comparisons link to banks, regulators, providers and our own country sites. Once you follow a link away from rateweb.africa, this policy no longer applies — the site you arrive at has its own privacy policy, and we are not responsible for its content or its handling of your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes or as the law changes. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be made obvious on the site rather than buried here.
